Abstract

d-trans-p -Oxocamphor is prepared by converting d - isoketopinic acid (d - trans - p - apocamphor-7-carboxylic acid) into its chloride by heating with thionyl chloride and reducing it by treatment in solution with hydrogen in the presence of a palladium catalyst. The product, which may be purified with bisulphite, possesses therapeutic properties. An example is given.
