[Class 136 (ii)] A propelling mechanism for bicycles comprises a pair of oscillating pedals H, G pivoted at, or near the axis of the rear road wheel ; a pair of free wheels A, one at each end of the bottom bracket spindle which carries the gear wheel connected, by a chain, to the sprocket on the rear road wheel; a cable B attached to the pedal G and passing over a pulley C under the seat and downwardly to be secured to one end of a chain D which passes around one of the free wheels A, the other end of the chain being secured to a cable passing upwardly, over a pulley F, and downwardly to be secured to an end of a chain similar to D passing around the other free wheel and connected to a cable, similar to B, secured to the pedal H.
