[Class 136 (ii).] A treadle drive for bicycles and like vehicles comprises two double-armed treadle levers a pivoted at b<1> to the lower fork b &c. of the vehicle frame and provided on their rear arms with arcuate racks i, i<1> respectively, which drive the wheel hub k<1> through pinions g, g<1> and freewheel sleeves l, l<1>, the return movement of each lever a being positively effected by the depression of the other lever, through further arcuate racks h, h<1> on the levers ; and is characterized in that the wheel axle d is freely mounted in ball bearings in the frame band has two pinions f, f<1> rigidly mounted on it and in permanent engagement with the racks h, h<1>, which are disposed on opposite sides of the axle d.
