Abstract
417,086. Actuating and retarding controllers. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Nov. 22, 1933, Nos. 32628 and 32629. Convention dates, Nov. 23, 1932. [Class 38 (iii).] A timing device, particularly for delaying the closure of electric contacts (13-15) in a motor starter, comprises an anchor 48 coacting with a scape wheel 45, an oscillating mass 49, whose pivotal axis is parallel to that of the anchor, and a driving connection (bolt 56) between an arm 50 on the anchor and the mass (slot 55) which connection is adjustable radially in the arm 50 and slot 55 to vary the periodicity of the mass 49. When the solenoid 18 of the motor starter 10 is energized, plunger 20 rises and rocks a member 23 clockwise, Fig. 5, to close contacts 11, 12. An initially stressed spring 28 connects member 23 to a shaft 26 and its action is retarded by the timedelay device 45, 48, 56, 49 which is marked generally at 19, 41, 40 in Fig. 1. The end 25 of shaft 26 carries the contact arms of accelerating contacts 13-15, which latter close in time sequence. Subsequently, a part 34<a> connected to the outer end of spring 28 and to shaft 26, opens the contacts 11 to reduce the energization of the motor field winding.
