Magnetos, driving -A trip-starting de vice for an ignition magneto is so ar. ranged that all the working parts of the snap mechanism ex. cepting the externally located actuating stop, are assembled on the armature so as to form with it an integral unit which can be slipped into or taken out of the magneto as a whole. In the form shown, 1, Fig. 1, the end of the armature and 29 is the driving shaft bored to receive the armature shaft 28 and carrying a flange 30 on which is a spring 17 attached at one end to the flange and at the other to the armature by screws 31. A weighted lever 5 pivoted on the armature end at 3 normally rests, as shown in end view in Fig. 2, against a central boss 26 and with its lighter end 5<1> extended so as to be held by an external pin 16 when the driving shaft urges the armature at slow speed in the direction of the arrow 15 through the spring. At a later point in the rotation of the shaft 29, a pin 12 on the flange 30 presses against the heavy end of the lever 5 and rocks it so as to remove the protruding end 5<1> from abutment on the pin 16 whereupon the stressed spring twists the armature rapidly. At higher speeds the lever 5 swings centrifugally so that its end 5<1> is drawn in and held against a stop 27 on the armature.
