Abstract
531,585. Escapements. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 27, 1939, No. 21810. Convention date, July 28, 1938. [Class 139] [Also in Group XXXVII] A timing device particularly for delaying the starting of meters comprises a balanced oscillating weight 49 pivoted at a pin 50 fixed to a frame 22 and an escapement member 46 pivoted on a pin 47 fixed to the frame and having secured to it an arm 51 which is pivoted on an extension of the pin 47 both arm 51 and weight 49 being slotted and connected to an adjusting screw 54, the member 46 engaging a scape wheel 45 connected to its shaft by a one-way ratchet clutch. The wheel 45 has teeth 59 on the inside engaged by pawls 58-three pawls on the same axispivoted by their cylindrical bosses in recesses 57 or a spider 55 carried by the shaft 54. The shaft 44 carries a pinion 43 gearing with a toothed segment 42 formed on a lever 30 pivoted on a bolt 28 passed through the frame 22. The other end the lever is pivoted to a yoke 38 connected by a helical spring to an arm 17 secured to rock shaft 19. The spring bears at one end on the bottom of the yoke 38 the other end being attached to a rod passing through the spring and arm 17 and ending in a nut 41. The lever 30 carries a spring biassed bridge member 32 having contacts 33 to complete a circuit across terminals 35. The shaft 19 carries the plunger of a solenoid and three contactors connected in the circuit of a three-phrase motor. When the solenoid is energized, its armature is drawn into it and the shaft 19 is rocked making the three contactors and tensioning the spring of the timing device which after suitable delay completes circuit through contacts 33, 34. Specificaton 417,086 is referred to.
