Abstract
411,214. Respiratory apparatus. GIRAUDET DE BOUDEMANGE, J. M. G., 24, Rue de Varenne, Paris. Jan. 20,1933, Nos. 1965 and 1966. Convention dates, Jan. 26, 1932 and March 5, 1932. [Class 81 (ii).] A portable respiratory apparatus of the closed circuit type comprises a hood adapted to surround the head or body without contact with the face and to constitute a large respiratory chamber, said hood being of flexible material without any internal supporting frame so that a slight excess pressure is always maintained therein, a reagent case for purifying the air in said hood, an oxygen supply, and communicating means between said case and oxygen supply and the hood. The hood 1, of oiled or rubbered fabric, comprises a window 2 which may be mounted on a frame 3, and is secured to a collar 4 in the form of a band or tube of compressible material such as sponge rubber from which the outer layer is removed on the face contacting with the skin or clothing of the wearer. A canvas or other strap 5 overlies the collar and may be cemented thereto or to the hood, and carries the oxygen bottle or generator 9 and reagent case 10. These may be carried by a hook on a plate which presses its supporting plate 6 against the body. The collar 4 or strap 5 may be attached to a belt or harness or to the trousers. The reagent case 10 communicates with the hood by two conduits which may be concentric to permit of assembling by means of a single coupling 15, Fig. 2. The oxygen bottle 9 is secured to the case by a coupling 11 formed with an injector 12, a cock, and pressure gauge. The case 10 comprises chambers 17 for the reagents through which the air, exhaled through the conduit 18, passes in parallel or in a series parallel manner to the peripheral chamber 19, whence it proceeds to the inlet tube 21 into which the injector 12 opens. A flexible tube 22 on the tube 21 may be placed in the mouth. The apparatus may comprise a loaded valve to prevent a large excess pressure and pockets within the hood for food. The hood may be adapted to contain the body of a child and be closed by a sliding cord device. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the reagent case may be dispensed with. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
