Abstract
268,596. Murakami, Y. June 16, 1926. Divers' dress.-In a diving-dress, the helmet a, Fig. 1, is made of flexible waterproof material formed with a neck flange c adapted to be removably attached by rings c<2>, c<3> to the corselet a', and is formed with a flanged opening for the reception of a metal mask b which is secured by means of screws b<2>, Fig. 5. The mask is provided with a window b<4>, and has at its inner edge a sealing band d which presses against the diver's face and prevents air from escaping into the dress. -The mask is pressed to the face by means of rubber loops a<1>, Fig. 1, which pass to the back of the helmet where they are secured by a clip. An exhaust valve d<3> at the top of the helmet permits the escape of any air in the dress and also of excess air fed to the mask. Inside the top of the mask is fitted a plate e, Fig. 5, having a central rib e<1> which deflects the incoming air on to the window b<4>. Air is fed through tubes e<2> which pass around the inner edge of the mask and terminate near the rib e<1> of the plate e. These tubes communicate with the air supply pipe f, which is fitted with a non- return valve and with a hand-operated cook f<2>, Fig. 1. Exhaled air is discharged through a mouthpiece g<1>, Fig. 5, which passes through a door f<4> in the mask, to pipes g<2>, Fig. 1, which lead to the interior of the helmet, the exits being provided with flap valves. A small orifices g', Fig. 5, in the mouthpiece g<1> permits the escape of pure air from the mask into the pipes g<2> and so into the helmet. The jacket j, Fig.1, is fitted with pockets j<1> for weights j<2>. A belt j<3>, having adjustment straps j<4> and a breast plate j<5> to which is attached a life line j<6>, is provided. A strap k from the belt is secured to the waist band p which connects the corselet to the trousers. Shoulder straps k' are secured to an air bag worn on the back, the air bag being also secured to the rear of the belt j<3>. The air bag is fed by a pipe m from the air pipe f. A pipe m<1> leads from the air pipe f to the interior of the helmet and dress for the inflation of the latter when it is desired to ascend, or in case the air pipe is entangled, in which case the diver inflates the dress, closes the control cock f<2> and cuts the pipe f, thus receiving air through a pipe n, provided with a flap valve. The trouser portion of the, dress is connected to the corselet by means of a metal waist band p, Fig. 6. which is provided with outwardly projecting studs p<3>. which pass through eyelets in the corselet and trousers and through holes in sectional metal plates p<4> which are secured by wing nuts on the studs.
