Abstract

695,675. Respirators. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. Sept. 3, 1951, No. 20735/51. Class 81 (ii). A respirator mask for covering the nose and mouth has a facepiece of resilient material and is provided with a single breathing compartment, a flexible cross strap being located at the lower end of the nose-covering portion to be engaged by the wearer's upper lip to prevent the sides of the nose covering portion spreading apart. A facepiece 1 of rubber or other impervious flexible material is provided along the rear edge with a more flexible sealing lip 11. A flexible crossmember 13 joined to the lip 11, or to the rear part of the facepiece (not shown), below the nose prevents the sides of the nose portion being pulled apart by headstraps passing through wires 9. Air inlets provided with filters 4 and an exhalation valve 7 having a cover 8 are arranged in the facepiece.
