410,233. Coke ovens. STILL, C., Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. Dec. 7, 1932, No. 34681. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1931. [Class 51 (ii).] In a vertically-flued coke oven in which the constituents of combustion are supplied at a number of levels in the heating-flues, the ducts in adjacent partition walls 21, 22 are connected to different supply regenerators, and the combustion constituents from the regenerators are divided into two controlled portions, one for delivery at the base of the heating-flues, and the other through the ducts in the partition walls. As shown in connection with an oven which can be heated either by rich gas supplied through the conduits 3, or by preheated lean gas, two pairs of conduits 6, 27, and 7, 28 are associated with each half wall, and are connected respectively to the regenerators 8, 9. The conduits 27, 28 lead to the base of the heating-flues through nozzles 29, 30, while the conduits 6 lead to ducts 23 in alternate partition walls 21, and the conduits 7 to ducts 24 in the intermediate partitions 22. The connections 31 .. 34 between the regenerators 8, 9 and the conduits 27, 28 are controlled by damper blocks 36. The regenerator 8, which is used for lean gas, is subdivided into compartments, one for each heating-wall, while the regenerator 9 is undivided. In a modified form of oven (Figs. 5 and 6 not shown) with transverse regenerators, the conduits 6, 7 are formed by free spaces left at the tops of the regenerators. The application of the invention to a vertical coke oven is also described (Figs. 7, 8, 9, not shown). Specification 221,697, [Class 51 (ii)], is referred to.
