357,766. Locking rotary elements by friction. MANLOVE, ALLIOTT, & CO., Ltd., Bloomsgrove Works, Norton Street, and PHILPS, A. M., 3, Burlington Road, Sherwood, Nottingham. Sept. 20, 1930, No. 28111. [Class 103 (i).] In a washing-machine having a manually-rotated pinion C geared at D to the rotary clothes drum for positioning the latter for loading &c. means for locking the pinion to its fixed axle B comprise a rotary member J having a reduced and slightly eccentric portion L which is housed within the slightly eccentric portion K of an axial chamber G formed in the sleeve A of the pinion. The rotary member is retained within the chamber by an end cover H. The bores of the sleeve and the rotary member are made slightly larger than the axle B for a portion of their length as shown whereby upon the rotation of the member J, effected by a handle M, the rotary member and the sleeve are thrown out of alignment with the axle thereby becoming locked thereto. The enlarged end E of the sleeve is provided with radial arms F for rotating the pinion.
