Abstract

775,935. Ironing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 13, 1955 [May 19, 1954], No. 13922/55. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group VI] In a clothes treating machine comprising a drum 1 arranged for rotation about a horizontal or inclined axis and provided with a baffle 15 so that clothes introduced into the drum are tumbled when the drum rotates, a container 23 with a longitudinal row of perforations 31 in its wall is arranged axially along the inner surface of the drum at one peripheral point thereof so that treating liquid introduced into the container before the drum is rotated, is discharged substantially uniformly along the drum through the perforations 31 when the drum is rotated. The liquid in the container 23 may be water for dampening the clothes prior to ironing them, but the machine may also be used for applying a liquid moth-proofing compound, a disinfectant, or a deodorant to the fabrics. The container 23 is detachably secured to the drum and may itself form the baffle. One end of the container 23 carries a pear-shaped locating key 25 adapted to fit into a correspondingly shaped recess 26 in the front wall 12 of the drum 1. The container is held in position by means of a leaf spring 30 which bears on a pin 28 mounted on the other end of the container and adapted to project through an opening in the rear wall 11 of the drum 1. The container is filled through an opening closed by a plug 33 located in a recessed area 34 of the container. The plug 33 is preferably of rubber and is provided with a ventilating tube (Fig. 5, not shown) extending to a point adjacent the opposite wall of the container. The invention is applied to a clothes. drying machine similar to that described in Specification 775,211.
