Grates, cleaning and clearing.-A clinker dam for use with chain grate and like stokers comprises a series of adjustable members A fulcrummed on a bar B and provided with forwardly projecting renewable noses C. The tail portions A<1> of the members are engaged by manually adjustable cams D mounted on a shaft E extending thrcugh the furnace wall and provided with a handle F for adjusting the. position of the members A. The noses of the members A are. disposed over the region where the links of the grate begin to, open in passing around the rear drum of the grate.
