Abstract
580,332. Travelling grates. NEWTON, E. P. (Detroit Stoker Co.). June 30, 1944, No. 12513. [Class 51 (i)] In a travelling grate having firebars A each pivoted to pins F on propelling chains B, B' at one edge and overlapping an adjacent bar at the opposite edge, the bars are held in contact with each other during passage round the sprocket C by resilient means which engage the ends of the bars. These means comprise shoes J resiliently held in position by bolts K, K<1>, surrounded by springs K<2>, and having flexible extensions formed of pivoted links L which are yieldably pressed against the bars A by a weight N carried by the hinge M<3> of a pair of arms M<1>, M<2>, the latter being pivotally connected to the ends of the upper and lower links L respectively. The weight N may be replaced by a spring.
