Abstract

526,371. Travelling grates. THOMPSON (WOLVERHAMPTON), Ltd., J., and RUDDOCK, J. T. March 14, 1939, No. 8193. [Class 51 (i)] In a travelling grate comprising bars 6 mounted on transverse carrier bars 2 attached to driving chains 3 the bars 6 are provided at the ends with projections 6e and recesses 6f having curved surfaces concentric with the pivots of the links of the driving chain and adapted to engage with the corresponding parts of adjacent rows of bars in such a manner that the gaps between adjacent rows of bars as they pass round the rear drum are closed to prevent passage of ashes. The fuel supporting surfaces of the bars are serrated as shown at 9 and the serrations are extended to the upper portions of the sides of the bars in such a manner that projections on one side are opposite to recesses on the other. At the sides of the grate bars 7 of the form shown in Fig. 6 are provided. These bars are wider than the bars 6 and are secured to the carrier bars 2 by cotter pins 11. The lower edges of the bars 7 are provided with guide flanges 7d.
