Abstract

294,420. Bates, H. K. Dec. 5, 1927. Kerbs.-Relates to road kerbs formed in sections of concrete, burnt clay or the like, which are adapted to form conduits for electric cables, and consists in forming the base and cover portions of the conduit of L-shaped slabs A, B, the horizontal member of one slab making joint as at a<6> or a<8> with the vertical member of the other slab so as to enclose a space which may be divided by one or more mid-feathers a<4> into two or more longitudinal ducts for the cables. The horizontal members are provided with shoulders a<11> to take the horizontal thrust. The joints a<6>, a<8>, and a joint b<4> between the vertical part of the slab B and the mid-feather a<4>, are of the tongue-and-groove type and are treated with a grout of slurry. The end faces of the slabs have grooves a<10>, b<10>, which form ducts for grouting when the slabs abut. The transverse joints of the bases are staggered, as shown, with respect to the transverse joints of the covers.
