Abstract
135,233. Smith, W. J. Howard-. Dec. 13, 1918. Block paving.-Concrete and like blocks for paving roadways, tramways, &c. are formed with one or more pockets R on one or more vertical faces, and keys A are inserted in adjacent pockets to connect the blocks non-rigidly and prevent them from rising. The keys may be made of wood, metal, coke-breeze cement, bitumen, &c., and the pockets and keys are shaped to allow the blocks to follow the contour of the road surface. The blocks are also formed with lifting- recesses. L into which hand hooks or sling grips may be inserted, and the .exposed edges of the blocks are protected, by metal P of Z-section embedded in the blocks.
