Abstract

268,407. Rhodes, A., and Rhodes. C. Nov. 28, 1925. Doffing-arrangements; spindle apparatus; lifting-rails; thread-severing arrangements.-Relates to doffing-mechanism for spinning, doubling, twisting, and like machines of the kind wherein devices for carrying the bobbins are mounted on duplicate rails and duplicate racks for operating such rails are arranged so that as one ascends the other descends, while, in the case of cap frames, the usual sliding cap holders are employed. The invention is described as applied to cap frames, but is applicable to flyer frames wherein the spindle rail, bobbin rail, and spindles are removed in conjunction with the removal of duplicate rails. Vertical racks 26, 32, operated so that as one rises the other falls, are connected to cam-grooves 34<a>, 36b and are partly rotated thereby during their vertical movements so that arms 27, 37 thereon move duplicate bobbin rails 19, 19<a>, from and to the spinning position. The rails 19, 19<a> carry tubes 19<b>, Fig. 9, adapted to engage projections 21a on the wharls which are mounted on the lifter rail 22. The spindle rail is lowered for the doffing-operations by means of rotary screws 10 which engage nuts on the rail, and the caps are supported by sliding holders 2 pivoted on a rod 4 extending the length of the frame and operated by brackets 5 on a shaft 6. The lifter rail 22 is gapped, so that as it is lowered to effect doffing it passes the arms 27 and the bobbin rail 19 with the full bobbins is left thereon. The racks are operated as above described so that the rail 19<a> is positioned to be engaged on the rail 22 and the wharl engaged by the tube when the spindle rail is returned to its normal position. The yarn extending from the full bobbin is carried by the rail 19<a> in its movement towards the spinning position and is caught by a projection on the bobbin tube and, upon restarting, severed by notches in a bar 42 on the rail. The racks are operated so that the full bobbins are in such a position that the plate 19 may be engaged by arms 50 operated by a handle 52 and removed from the arms 27. The Provisional Specification describes arrangements wherein the screws that operate the spindle rail engage toothed nuts operated by pinions, and wherein the racks that carry the duplicate rails during the doffing operations are operated in turn by a pinion slidable along its shaft.
