Abstract

279,144. Stell, A., Stell, J., and Welch, H. May 17, 1926. Doffing-arrangements; thread-holding and thread-severing arrangements; spindle apparatus; thread guides. - To permit the use of doffing- mechanism in cap frames using long bobbins without extending the height of the machine, flanges 15<a> are provided on the caps about midway of their length and are adapted to be engaged by a sliding plate 16, Fig. 7, on brackets 17 operated by the usual rack mechanism 18, the thread guide board 24 being hinged on an extending portion of the bracket 17 so that it is displaced by the cap when it is raised to be engaged by the plate 16. The full bobbin pegs 38 and the empty bobbin pegs 33 are respectively carried by a bar 37 and a rail 32 connected by a lever 31 and a slotted rod 35 so that, when a notched handle 40 connected to the lever 31 is operated and adjusted in positions determined by the engagement of its notches with a pin 30<d>, the pegs are suitably disposed relatively to the spindle to receive the full bobbins therefrom and to permit the raising of empty bobbins thereon and, during such movements, are tilted to clear each other and to allow free passage for the bobbins. During spinning the pegs occupy the positions shown in Fig. 3. the central notch of the handle 40 being engaged with the pin 30<d>; and during the doffing operations the inner and outer notches are engaged to dispose the pegs 38 and 33 successively beneath the caps, which are advanced by the rack gear 18 to permit this operation to the position shown in Fig. 5. The bobbin pegs and their operating-gear are carried by a rack 30 which is raised and lowered as required by a pinion and handle 44. The bobbins are supported during transit by slotted flanged arms 27, Fig. 10, which are operated and retained in position by a handle 26<k> and are provided with hexagonal members k carried by a pin h rotatable and slidable in the arms so as to ensure contact with the bases of the bobbins. Prior to restarting, the rack 30 is operated suitably to position the full bobbins and the yarns extending therefrom are engaged by fingers 28a on a slidable shaft 28, which is then turned so that the yarns are engaged by the notched wharl and broken upon re-starting.
