Abstract

Aminodibenzanthrone and its derivatives, such as the dimethyl compound obtained by nitrating and reducing dimethyldibenzanthrone, are converted by treatment in solution or suspension with oxidizing agents into other dyes which dye cotton from the vat in black shades fast to chlorine. According to examples, aminodibenzanthrone is treated with chromic acid in acetic acid suspension, or with sodium chlorate in dilute sulphuric acid suspension, or with nitrosylsulphuric acid.
