18,117. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. Aug. 5. Thioindigo dyes.-A vat dye is obtained by reducing o-o-dinitrothioindigo to the diamioo compound by meaus of sodium sulphide or other reducing-agent ; the product dyes wool and cotton steel-blue to blackish-blue tints ; it may be halogenized by treatment with, say, bromine alone, or in the presence of nitrobenzene, sulphuric acid, chlorsulphonic acid, water, &c. o-o-Dinitro-p-pdichlor- or-dibrom-thioindigo give similar dyes on reduction ; these dyes may also be balogenized subsequently. The dinitro and dinitrodihalogen bodies used as parent materials are obtained by treating o-nitrophenylthioglycollic acid and o-nitrop-halogenphenylthioglycollic acid with chlorsulphonic acid.
