Abstract

Dyes are made by heating a thianthrene dicarboxylic acid (see Specification 555,055) or such an acid containing an oxygen atom p on one or both sulphur atoms (obtained by partial oxidation of the thianthrene body), or a functional derivative of either, with 1-amino-6-or 7-chloranthraquinone, or a mixture of these 1-amino-6- and 7-chloranthraquinones. The products dye cotton, linen, artificial silk, and regenerated cellulose yellow shades. Examples describe: (1) the condensation of thianthrene dicarboxylic acid chloride with 1-amino-6- and 7-chloranthraquinones separately and in admixture; and (2) the oxidation of thianthrene dicarboxylic acid with sodium hypochlorite, conversion of the oxidized acid to its chloride, and condensation of the latter with the 6-chlor body alone or in admixture with the 7-chlor body.
