Abstract

An a ,a 1-dianthrimide containing in at least one further a -position an o-fluorobenzoylamino group is carbazolised. Carbazolising agents specified are aluminium chloride, titanium tetrachloride, and concentrated sulphuric acid, and pyridine, nitrobenzene, or sulphur dioxide may be used with aluminium chloride. The products dye or print wool, silk, cotton, linen, artificial silk, regenerated cellulose and nylon yellow shades. In examples the following anthrimides are made from the corresponding anthraquinone derivatives and carbazolised: (1) 5-(o-fluorobenzoylamino)-1,11-dianthrimide; (2) 4,51-(or 5,51)-di-(o-fluorobenzoylamino)-1,11-dianthrimide; (3) 5-benzoylamino-41(or 51)-(o-fluorobenzoylamino)-1,11-dianthrimide. A dyeing example is also given. 1-Chloro-4 or 5-(o-fluorobenzoylamino)-anthraquinone is obtained from 1-chloro-4 or 5-aminoanthraquinone and o-fluorobenzoyl chloride.
