Abstract
317,428. Barnes, R. S., Harris, J. E. G, Thomas, J., and Scottish Dyes, Ltd. May 16,1928. Leuco compounds of vat dyes, esters of.-Dry leuco-compounds of vat dyes are treated with malonyl halides, especially malonyl chloride, in tertiary basic suspension to give water soluble, stable compounds. These may be applied for dyeing without the usual vatting process, and converted into the parent dyestuffs with acid oxidizing agents. In examples, leuco-thioindigo and the leuco compound of Caledon Red BN are treated in pyridine suspension with malonyl chloride, in an atmosphere of nitrogen, and in the latter case. the product is dyed on to cotton from aqueous solution, and developed by an acid hypochlorite solution. Reference is made also to vat dyes of the anthraquinone series as starting materials. Specifications 186,057, 231,889, 245,587, 247,787, and 251,491 are referred to.
