Machine guns; sound of discharge, modifying; flash of discharge, obscuring.-A device for silencing, obscuring the flash and reducing the recoil comprises a casing 3 surrounding the barrel 1 and divided by solid rings 4 into chambers 5 of different lengths each communicating with the barrel bore 6 by slots 2 or the like. The chamber nearest the muzzle is the shortest. The casing is secured to the barrel at one point only to allow for free expansion. The casing 3 may be surrounded by another casing into which gases can pass from the chambers 5.
