Abstract
592,092. Ordnance. BURNEY, SIR C. D. Dec. 16, 1944, .No. 25296. [Class 92 (ii)] A breech loading gun using fixed ammunition with a perforated cartridge case 4, has annular seatings at the forward and rear ends of the cartridge chamber for supporting the cartridge case, the diameter of the chamber between the seatings being greater than the diameter of the seatings. By this means a clear annular space is formed around the cartridge case into which the explosion gases can pass, thus reducing the maximum pressure, but producing a higher mean value of the pressure space curve. In the construction shown, the forward part 3 of the chamber is slightly larger in diameter than the cartridge case, while the rear part 5 is of increased diameter.
