Abstract
332,433. Destree, J. April 13, 1929, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-A gas piston for automatic guns, of the kind having certain portions out of contact with the cylinder within which it moves and having an incurved gasreceiving face, has an overall external diameter which is sufficiently smaller than the bore of the cylinder, to prevent any contact with the cylinder walls. The gases from the gun barrel 2 pass through a duct 2<a> and are directed on to the concave face 4<a> of a piston 4 by a guide 3<a>. The overall external diameter of the piston is sufficiently below that of the bore of the cylinder 3 as to prevent jambing. The order of the clearance for a cylinder of 25 millimeters bore is 0.125 millimeters, i.e. the diameter of the piston is 24.75 millimeters.
