Abstract
499,248. Automatic firearms. GENSCHOW & CO. AKT.-GES., G. May 12, 1938, No. 14216. Convention date, May 31, 1937. [Class 119] The speed of firing of an automatic firearm is governed by a pneumatic brake 7 located below the barrel or chamber 4, the brake comprising a piston 13, Fig. 6, coupled to a slide 20 which is guided on the brake cylinder 7 and carries a pivoted pawl 10 adapted to engage a reciprocating part of the mechanism, e.g. the lock or part of the lock or, where the barrel reciprocates, the barrel or a tube fixed thereto. The pawl is spring-pressed so as normally to project to engage the reciprocating part of the mechanism, thereby slowing down the firing speed by the dashpot effect of the brake 7, the dashpot cylinder having fixed apertures at one end and an adjustable aperture at the other so that the speed may be controlled. The axis of the cylinder, and the parallel slide 20, are inclined to the barrel, so that the pawl is automatically disengaged from the reciprocating part of the mechanism during the forward movement of such part. The pawl has a pin which may be engaged by a surface on a slide controlled by a handle 27 so that the pawl may be rendered inoperative if required.
