Abstract

241,498. Brandt, E. W. Jan. 12, 1925, [Convention date]. Projectiles.-Relates to projectiles of the kind having an ogival front part 1 and a long tapered rear part 4 separated from each other by a narrow belt portion of large diameter, for example as described in Specification 245,711, and consists in providing this belt portion with transverse circular grooves 5, which act to check the escape of gases when the projectile is fired from a smooth-bore gun. The front wall a of each groove is straight, but the rest of the groove may be given various shapes. There is a shoulder b between the tapered rear part 4 and the belt portion; but the belt portion may pass smoothly, Fig. 3, or by a step c, Fig. 4, to the ogival front part.
