Abstract

269,412. Vargyas, A. Oct. 12, 1926. Projectiles.-The rear end of a projectile is 'tapered in steps formed by cylinders a<1> - - a<8>. These steps are separated by flat or concave faces b and terminate in a point or small surface b<2>, Fig. 1, or in a comparatively large concave base b', Fig. 5. This stepped rear part may be a separate hollow piece attached to the main body of the projectile. The stepped construction is stated to reduce air resistance during flight, while preserving the propulsive action of the gun gases just outside the muzzle of the gun barrel.
