Abstract
233,709. Pantoflicek, B. May 6, 1924, [Convention date]. Recoil, modifying; sound of discharge, modifying; ordnance design.-A muzzle attachment for reducing the recoil and sound of discharge comprises a plate, fixed at the muzzle, for deflecting the gases rearwardly on to a second plate or reversing device which is movably mounted on the gun. As shown in Fig. 1, a curved plate 4 is fixed bv webs 12 to a nozzle 2 screwed to the muzzle of the barrel 1. The plate has a central hole 15 and tubular extensions 11 for the passage of the bullet. The movable deflecting device is a curved plate 7 sliding on a tubular rear extension 9 of the nozzle and pressed forwards by a spring 10. In a modification, Fig. 2, the movable device is an annular piston 20 pressed forwards by a spring 10 and sliding in a chamber formed by the nozzle tube 23 and a cylindrical casing 16 extending from the plate 4. Air holes 18 are provided near the rear end of the chamber. The mass of the movable device and the elasticity of the spring acting upon it may be so chosen that during automatic firing an oscillation of a frequency to damp the recoil is produced.
