Abstract

193,247. Atkinson, J. S., Stein & Atkinson, Ltd., and Fletcher, J. E. Jan. 25, 1922. Regenerators.-In a regenerative furnace of the kind in which the air or gas is preheated in recuperators before entering the regenerators, the waste gases from the gas regenerators 1, 1<a>, Fig. 1, and the air regenerators 2, 2<a> are led through reversing valves 15, 16 to a duct 6, Fig. 2, and thence through horizontal ducts in the air recuperator 3 before passing to the chimney flue, 8. Gas from the supply pipe 9 passes through the valve 15 to one or other of the regenerators 1, 1<a>, and air entering the recuperator at the inlet 4 passes vertically upwards to the outlet 5 and thence through the valve 16 to one or other of the regenerators 2, 2<a>. The recuperator may be used for heating gas instead of air.
