Abstract
255,177. Brassert, H. A., and Andrews, C. W. April 29, 1925. Air and gas heating furnaces.-Air, gases, or steam for use in connection with gas producers, blast furnaces, &c. are heated by three or more stoves each comprising a casing 43 containing brick checkerwork 45 and layers of metal rods 46, the heatdelivering period for each stove being alternated with a heat - absorbing period of longer duration. Blast furnace gas, producer gas or natural gas &c. is introduced through a pipe 15 with a valve 18, induces a flow of air through a passage 8 with a valve 11 and burns in the upper portion of the stove, the flame impinging on the checker work 45 and the combustion products passing to the flue by a pipe 29. When one stove is sufficiently heated the valves 11, 18 and a valve in the pipe 29 are closed and the air, gas or steam is introduced through a pipe 36 with valve 39, while another stove is heated. The heated air &c. passes to the apparatus in which it is to be used by a pipe 23 with valve 26. A cleaning door 42 allows of the removal of waste material accumulating in the stove.
