Guarding against unauthorized use.-Means for looking a shaft for preventing unauthorized use of machines, vehicles, &c. are housed in a member integral with the cover of a casing surrounding the whole, and the cover can only be released by the operation of a selector device. As shown, the member 73, integral with the cover k, carries locking means comprising a locking-tooth w adapted to be engaged with or disengaged from the teeth of a spur-wheel 51, on the shaft 50, by the operation of a crank t under the control of a selector device 30. Spring catches l, pivoted on the member 73, snap over teeth m, resiliently attached to the casing 54, as the cover is closed, and can only be released when the selector is in a predetermined position.
