Abstract

156,340. Hunter, M. C. I., Pearce, C. H., and Stott, F. Oct. 11, 1919. Actuating pumps by hand and foot power; oscillating-cylinder pumps.-A tyre pump actuated by a toggle mechanism one member of which is formed of the piston and cylinder and the other of a lever pivotally connected to the piston and to the pump-frame, comprises a preferably curved toggle-lever which is adapted to be thrust within the cylinder at the end of the compression stroke. As shown, the cylinder A, Fig. 1, is pivotally mounted upon the frame K, and the piston B is connected to the spring-controlled toggle-lever C. The pump is actuated through a foot-plate C<4> or a handle C<5> carried by the toggle-lever. The pump-frame may be formed of sheet metal with supporting-members K<1>, K<2>. In a modification, the foot-plate or handle is carried by an arm secured to or forming part of the cylinder. In another arrangement, the cylinder A, Fig. 3, is cast in one with the frame K and the foot-plate M<1> is carried by the toggle-member M. In a further modification, the foot-plate is carried by two arms pivotally mounted upon the frame, and a wire clip is provided for holding the apparatus in a closed position when not in use.
