Abstract

144,718. Sutton, J. June 8, 1915, [Convention date]. Track apparatus for stopping trains. - The throttle lever 31 and brake valve lever 59 are actuated to stop the train by the piston 37 in a cylinder to which pressure fluid from the reservoir 43 is supplied through a two-way valve 44 actuated by a lug 51 on a vertically sliding rod 52 which is engaged and depressed by one or other of the bell crank levers 57 when a track contact 14 in its raised position is passed. The valve 44 is re-set by the driver and then puts the cylinder in connexion with the atmosphere. The track contact 14 is counterweighted to move to the clear position and is retained in its raised position by the lever 19 which passes through slots in sliding bars 22, 23 inserted in the signal operating wires of home and distant signals 26, 30; the track contact is only free to move to clear position if both signals are at " clear.
