Abstract
10,565. Gibson, J. H. May 20. Stopping engines and trains; contacts, mechanical; whistle signals.-A spring bar is placed on the track and arranged to be bent by an eccentric into the path of a lever on the engine to actuate the whistle and, at 'home' signals, the brake valves also. The eccentric a is operated by the signal wires to bend a bar of metal to form an inclined obstacle in the path of the roller g on a lever e on the engine. This lowers a rod h, which operates the whistle valve at distant signals but not the brake valve, which is connected to the rod h by a slot connexion allowing a small movement of the rod before the brake valve is operated. At home' signals, the rod h is lowered sufficiently to operate the brake valve as well as the whistle. The idle travel of the rod h may be regulated by nuts on the rod h which engage the handles of the valves. Specification No. 5708, A.D. 1905, is referred to.
