Abstract

12,961. Northup, F., Overacker, C. A., and Marklie, G. May 26. Track apparatus for stopping trains.-Power is cut off and the brake valves opened by the piston-rod 9 of a cylinder 2, to which fluid is supplied through a valve 7 when trip-levers 32 fitted with buffers 33 engage devices on the track. These levers 32 are spring - held in the full-line position and are pivoted to rods 34 carrying lugs 35. When the trip-levers engage a track contact, one of the lugs 35 moves a block 24 sliding in lateral guides against the action of a spring or the like, and thus removes a pin on the block from a socket in the end of the valve lever 23. The valve 7 is then opened by a spring, and the piston-rod 9 is forced into the cylinder. Racks on the piston-rod rotate pinions on the spindles of the throttle valve 13 or other power controller and of the brake valve 17. The piston is reset by pressure fluid admitted through the pipe 22 under control of a valve (not shown).
