141,131. Hotchkiss, D. V. Jan. 7, 1919. Propelling by water jets.- The vessel e is provided with a pump which draws water through the opening l at the region of increased pressure near the bow and delivers it through a nozzle f. The jet from the nozzle is directed rearward at such an angle that it is tangential to the curve of immersed transverse sectional areas h or is parallel to the tangent. The water thus follows the stream lines without shock. In a normal vessei, the nozzle f is placed at about onequarter of the length from the bow, but it may be farther forward or aft in vessels having blunt or fine lines respectively. t
