Abstract

1,215,136. Ship propulsion. KORT PROPULSION CO. Ltd. 5 Feb., 1968 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 8001/67. Heading B7V. A nozzle 1 encircling a ship's propeller 3 has arcuate circumferentially spaced ducts 13 inclined to the longitudinal axis of the nozzle and positioned aft of the propeller tip. The nozzle is fixed or turnable. In Fig. lb the fore and aft sides of ducts 13 are parallel and partconical. During operation of the propeller ahead water flows through the ducts 13 out of the nozzle, to prevent a region of stagnant water forming. During operation of the propeller astern water flows through the ducts into the nozzle. In Fig. 3b (not shown) ducts 28 are inclined in the opposite direction to reduce cavitation. The ducts may be curved in crosssection.
