Abstract

1,251,146. Resilient glazing strips. F. T. CHIVERTON. 22 April, 1970 [23 April, 1969], No. 20791/69. Heading E1R. A sheet of glass 7 is secured in a rebate 9 of a frame 8 by means of an elastomeric glazing strip 1 of right-angled-triangular cross-section with a longitudinal slot to receive the glass edge, a rigid or semi-rigid reinforcing strip 4 being attached to or combined with the glazing strip 1 along its hypotenuse face and having spaced apertures for the insertion of screws or nails 10 through the glazing strip into the frame 8, so that tightening of the screws 10 causes the reinforcing strip 4 to press the glazing strip 1 against the glass 7 and the frame 8. If the reinforcing strip is attached externally it is preferably flat and flush fitted in a recess in the hypotenuse face of the glazing strip and bonded thereto. Alternatively the reinforcing strip may be embedded within the glazing strip if the latter is translucent to render the apertures visible or if the positions of the apertures are marked on the glazing strip. The reinforcing strip may be of metal or hard plastics material.
