Abstract
1,022,087. Carding engines; clearing rollers. YURIN KIKI KABUSHIKI KAISHA. March 26,1964 [March 28,1963; July 3,1963], No. 13006/64. Headings DID and D1N. The doffer roller of a carding machine is itself doffed by a rotatable drum having longitudinal aperatures around its periphery through which plates are caused to project and retract. The drum 11 with the retractable plates 23 may have its outer periphery formed of segments secured to endplates or it may be a slitted cylinder. Each plate 23 is serrated along its outer edge and has its inner edge secured to a cylindrical bar laterally slid into a groove in a shaft which rotates on an axis eccentric to the axis of rotation of the drum so that as the shaft and drum rotate the serrated edges of the plates project from the drum in the area of a fibre-carrying cylinder 19. After causing removal of fibres from the cylinder 19, the plates 23 retract and as the drum 11 continues its rotation it is cleaned of adhering fibres either by a knife and felt roller (Fig. 2 not shown) or by a suction nozzle 44. Knives and suction nozzles are located adjacent pressure rollers to maintain them clean of fibres and impurities.
