Abstract
745,176. Roller mills. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. July 5, 1954 [July 17, 1953], No. 19893/53. Class 59. [Also in Group XII] A machine for breaking up masses of wet or sticky material, e.g. peat, comprises a casing 1, two oppositely rotating toothed rollers 3, 4 between which the material to be broken up is fed from a hopper 2 which fling from their peripheries pieces of the material in the form of a spray, and two small plain rollers 9, 10 which rotate in the opposite direction to rollers 3, 4 respectively and are disposed in such a position as to intercept and collect pieces of the material on the verge of the spray and convey these pieces away from the spray. Scrapers 13, 14 are provided to bear against the edges of the rollers 9, 10 and the material removed is fed upwardly between the casing 1 and the rollers 3, 4 and returned to the entry end of the machine. The rollers 3, 4 may rotate at 200 and 150 r.p.m. respectively and the small rollers 9, 10 at about the same speed as one of the rollers 3 and 4. In a modification, the small rollers may be replaced by moving belts to the surface of which the pieces of material adhere.
