Abstract

657,337. Roller-and-ring extruding-machines. BOYNTON, T. E. Dec. 2, 1948, No. 31234. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group II] One or more rollers 25 are journalled on arms 24 pivoted at 23 to a beam 22 fixed on a rotating shaft 7. As the beam rotates, the rollers press material through holes 5 in a stationary ring 4, and the material issuing from the holes is cut off by rotating knives 20. The shaft 7 rotates quickly, and the rollers 25 are urged centrifugally against the ring 4. The shaft 7 is driven by an electric motor 12 via shaft 10 and gears 9, 8. The knives are carried by a toothed ring 17 which runs in a groove G in the ring 4 and on rollers 17a. The ring 17 is driven, by gear 16 from shaft 10, in the same direction as the rollers 25. Ploughs or deflectors 28, secured to a sleeve 27 which depends from and rotates with the beam, lead the material into the path of the rollers. Material is fed into the extruding chamber by a regulator 30 from a hopper 29. The material may be animal feed or coal dust. In modifications (not illustrated) the ring 4 may rotate, in the same direction or opposite to that of the rollers, in which case the knives are stationary.
