983,461. Fibre cleaning and carding apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER A.G. Dec. 19, 1961 [Jan. 11,1961], No. 45454/61. Heading D1N. Perforated rotary drums in machines preparing fibres for spinning have centrifugal blowers of the transverse flow type arranged within them to create radial air streams passing through the drums. Fibres in an opening and cleaning machine, Fig. 1, are deposited on a cage 8 within which rotates a blower 12 associated with a radial inlet, and radial outlet and having blades 13 parallel to the axis of the blower. A similar blower is mounted within a fine filter drum 15 from which dust is blown into a waste compartment 20 containing a worm 19. In other applications, one or more of the cylinders of a carding machine may contain blowers. As shown in Fig. 2, a taker-in 22, main cylinder 24 and doffer 29 may each be so provided.
