A vibration damper for a stringed instrument comprises a yoke member 4 which has a pad 7 of foam rubber or other soft material secured to its upper face and which is pivoted on pins 6, 6<SP>1</SP> set in the bridge 2, and a tension-spring 9 adapted to hold the yoke in either an " off " or an " on " position, the pad being pressed against the strings 3 in the " on " position. The damper is moved from one position to the other by finger pressure on the appropriate end of arm 5 or 5<SP>1</SP>, the yoke then pivoting about the axis defined by pins 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and a " snap " action taking place as the spring 9 moves across that axis. The tension of spring 9 may be adjusted by moving shackle member 10 by turning nuts 11, 11<SP>1</SP> on screws 12, 12<SP>1</SP> which extend from the bridge 2. A separate frame may be provided for the damper, located in front of and parallel to the bridge. A compression spring may be used instead of a tension spring.
