Abstract
871,826. Violin shoulder rests. STEWART, W. J. March 9, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1957], No. 38311/57. Class 88 (2). A shoulder rest for violins &c. comprises a resilient structure with two hooks at one end and a single hook at the other end for gripping the violin. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, a crossbar g carrying two rubber covered hooks h connects two bent portions d of the wire sides b. A single hook l is arranged at the other end of the rest. The wires may be covered with velveteen, and cork o also covered with velveteen p may be held between the wires. In a modification, Fig. 3, a sheet metal structure w apertured at y is hinged to a wire frame q carrying the crossbar g. A spring v holds the hooks against the violin when in use. The edges x may be tubular. In another modification, Fig. 2, the wire frame q is hinged to a strut e joining the wires b.
