Abstract

<B>PROCESSO PARA TRATAR A CALOR FILAMENTOS DE POLìMEROS CRISTALINOS LìQUIDOS TERMOTRóPICOS<D> A presente invenção revela e reivindica um processo novo para o tratamento a calor de filamentos de denier elevado de um polímero cristalino líquido termotrópico. As modalidades preferidas incluem processo para a formação de filamentos tratados a calor de alguns poliésteres e poliesteramidas totalmente aromáticos. O processo envolve a) aquecimento de um polímero cristalino líquido termotrópico até acima de sua temperatura de transição de fusão; b) passagem do referido polímero fundido através de uma câmara de extrusão equipada com um capilar de extrusão de uma razão de aspecto maior do que aproximadamente 1 e menor do que aproximadamente 15 para formar um filamento; c) enrolamento do filamento em uma bobina a uma baixa tensão e uma razão de estiramento de pelo menos aproximadamente 4, e d) tratamento a calor do filamento diretamente na bobina em condições de temperatura e pressão adequadas por um período de tempo suficiente. Os filamentos assim formados são de pelo menos 50 denier por filamento (dpf) e apresentam essencialmente orientação molecular em seção transversal. Os filamentos tratados a calor apresentam propriedades de tração notavelmente boas, retendo pelo menos 80 a 90% das propriedades esperadas dos filamentos com denier baixo (5 a 10 dpf) convencionais.
