The Iceman s Axe Essay
Murdered. He was murdered. Who? The 5,300 year old human time capsule, whose name is Ötzi.
Theories about the death of Otzi are as varied as the ages through which he s slept . Assassination
by an envious, bloodthirsty clan mate seems most plausible. This scenario is likely because of Otzi
s copper axe, the arrowhead which took his life, and a large cavedrawing with a shocking story to
tell. Ötzi, like all of us, far from invincible, deserves justice.
The Iceman s axe is the first piece of important evidence to consider in this ancient cold case. Made
of smelted copper and advanced for his time, the axe signifies that Otzi was a man of power or
position. Although a small detail, it would make sense that someone could have desired ... Show

Evidence also suggests that a fellow clansman was the killer. Further evidence of motive is
suggested by Ötzi s copper axe the coveted tribal symbol of status. Similarity of arrowheads
belonging to Ötzi and his killer along with the skill of the archer and the cave art depicting the dirty
deed provide credible evidence which supports the assassination theory of the crime. Ötzi was
clearly killed by a skilled assassin determined to be his demise. Hopefully, someday, through yet
uncovered evidence, we will conclusively find Ötzi s killer so this cold case may be closed and he
will, at last, be laid to
Virgin Of Guadalupe Summary
Whether it be on prayer cards or gold chains, the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe has resonance
with the nation of Mexico. Modern Mexican icons, such as the Virgin of Guadalupe, have
foundations in Post Conquest New Spain s plight in forming an identity separate from that of Spain.
In James Cordova s Colonial Rhetorics, a chapter within The Art of Professing in Bourbon Mexico,
Cordova asserts a similar notion. This chapter argues that local emblems, such as the Virgin of
Guadalupe and the crowned nuns, were manipulated to articulate integral portions of New Spain s
identity in the eighteenth century. This paper summarizes this chapter s three subheadings:
European Images of the Americas, Local American Emblems, and New Spanish Patriotism... Show

The extent of Cordova s debriefing on the intersection of gender with the aforementioned themes is
in relation to the hagiographers preference in imagery of the penitent and discalced nuns over
imagery of the crowned nuns. The reason being that the crowned nuns threatened the Counter
Reformation efforts of orthodoxy and had the power to ... threaten male ecclesiastical power if left
unchecked (Cordova 164). However, what Cordova fails to note in both the popularization of
imagery like the Virgin of Guadalupe and the crowned nuns, is the significance in their depiction as
not only females idols, but chaste female idols. Their chastity is an integral characteristic of their
being and womanhood, which is reflective of the Enlightenment era s emphasis on creating defined
gender roles, pushing beyond the mere difference in genitalia to describe anatomical depth. The
female gender was subsequently subscribed to the importance of their modesty and chastity.
Therefore, the aggrandization of female religious icons is not just symptomatic of the plight of New
Spain to develop a unique and respected identity, but is also in direct relation to the enforcement of
strict gender conformant. These two
Advanced Research Project Agency Network (ARPANET)
The computer network is computers and other devices have to be connected so they can share
data and hardware or software resources. In 1969, the University of California at Los Angeles,
the Stanford Research Institute, the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University
of Utah were all connected to be part of the Advanced Research Project Agency Network
(ARPANET) project. This network has evolved to become the internet now. The networks are
used to communicate by email, video chat (video conferencing), and instant messaging. It
enables many people can share a single hardware device like a printer or scanner and files can be
shared. Software or operating on remote systems can be shared. The types of networks are local
area networks (LAN), personal area networks (PAN), home area networks (HAN), wide area
networks (WAN), campus networks, metropolitan area networks (MAN), enterprise private
networks, internetworks, backbone networks (BBN), global area networks (GAN), and the internet.
Throughout the years there were different types of speeds. Fleishman state What s the point of
these increasing speeds? Video, primarily. The name of the game is streaming or downloading high
definition video across a room or from one end of the house to the other while leaving enough room
for other activities such as file downloads Facebook, and email. One technology that is used was the

Causes And Effects Of Solar Storms
A solar storm with that classification can produce long lasting radiation storms which can damage
satellites and even damage influence airline passengers that fly near the polls. The small radiation
doses produced as well by X class flares also hold the potential to create global transmission
problems and worldwide blackouts. When solar flares are produced from the sun, radiation is emitted
across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, starting at radio waves at the long end of the spectrum
to x ray and gamma rays at the short wavelength end. The beta and gamma radiation produced from
the solar flare influence the semiconductors present in most electronic systems in today s
technology. When the radiation passes through the semiconductor is can have two major effects:
one is to make electron hole pairs which may create soft errors and, if the radiation is produced in a
sufficient amount permanent damage can be caused by creating large numbers of charges with
sufficient energy injected into silicon dioxide regions and change the characteristics of the transistor.
Not only can solar radiation damage small components but can damage a large part of the power
grid. When a geomagnetic stormhits the earth the produced electromagnetic energy from the solar
windcauses geomagnetically induced currents. This is similar to the process of when an electrical
generator produces electricity, the currents produced by the solar storm are a geo electric field but
have a magnetic field the same
Ethical Issues In A Hospital
For this assignment, I spent time volunteering at Mercy Downtown, helping at the main
information desk. While I was there, I assisted visitors in finding patients by looking up their
room number, directed patients and visitors to the correct area of the hospital, and delivered
flowers to rooms that had been dropped off. A paid employee also accompanied me while there, as
volunteers are not allowed to actually look up patient information via the online portal, but I could
call a different help desks within the hospital to ask other paid employees to look patients up for me
if needed. The experience made me realize that there are so many little unthought of components to
making a hospital as big as Mercy be efficient for everyone. The information... Show more content

I have learned that no matter how many times people tell me not to judge a person by their
appearance, I have grown up in a world where we still do it daily regardless of how hard we try
not to. I go back and forth thinking about whether it s right or wrong to so openly give out patient
room numbers but in the end, I think it s really only fair to do so. I think there could be changes,
if possible phone up to a room and ask the patient if they know so and so, and if they want them to
come to their room. Another option might be calling the nurses station or something on the floor,
but I can only imagine how crazy that would drive employees who are trying to do their jobs. I
can guess that most health care related organizations come across many situations and
circumstances that could sway between ethical and unethical, and the decision about what to do is
probably very difficult. It has been made very clear to me now, as to why hospitals have boards of
directors with members from different backgrounds, so that there is really someone pulling from
every angle to try and think about all the options to help make a sound
Contributions Of Horace Mann
Known as The Father of American Education, Horace Mann is listed in Atlantic Magazine as one of
the 100 Most Influential Figures in American History. Although modern education in America has
strayed from the original principles Horace Mann established during the creation of the common
school, his multitude of contributions towards American public educationmarks him as worthy of this
distinction.
Horace Mann was born May 4th, 1796 in Franklin, Massachusetts. Franklin was a small town with a
strong religious community and, consequently, much of Mann s early education on morality was
derived from sermons at the meetinghouse, although he frequently disagreed with the teachings of
Pastor Nathaniel Emmons. Formal schooling in Franklin consisted of 6 7 weeks out of the year of
substandard instruction, held in a one room schoolhouse; Mann was dissatisfied with this two prong
approach to education and only thrived academically due to his devotion to teach himself. Instead of
continuing life on the farm, Mann decided to seek higher education away from his home and
family. After a series of strenuous admission exams, he entered Brown University with sophomore
standing. However, the education provided by Brown University only taught Horace Mann how to
excel in form and not thought; both his essays and arguments were incredibly well crafted but
lacked substance and hard facts. However, he managed to graduate from Brown University in 1819
in high esteem as both valedictorian and
Dave Matthews Band Research Paper
Dave Matthews Band

Formed in 1991, The Dave Matthews Band is composed of the widely varied musical interests of
five musicians to create a uniquely impressive sound that combines the influences of folk, Jazz,
rock, world beat, and reggae. South African David Matthews, the band s lead guitarist, began to
assemble the players in 1991 to accompany him on a demo tape of original songs. Matthews, at the
time was a bartender at a Charlottesville, Va. Jazz venue, called Millers. Matthews decided to
approach the area musicians he most respected, and invite them to listen to his musical ideas. He
approached Leroi Moore and Carter Beauford first, two musicians that he respected greatly. After
listening to a few songs he had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he failed to make it into the Arsenio band,
Carter landed a job on pianist Ramsey Lewis s BET Jazz show, Bet on Jazz. In January of 1991,
Carter moved back to Charlottesville, playing random gigs and taping the BET show. When
Matthews heard Carter was back in Virginia, he decided to approach him about making the demo
tape. Matthews, Beauford, and Moore then approached Stefan
Lessard, who at 16, was already an accomplished upright bass player The trio asked
Stefan to play electric bass guitar for the newly forming band. Lessard was already a very well
respected bass player in the Jazz circles of Virginia. He converted to the electric bass for the band.
The bass is really the only non acoustic instrument in the band. Sometimes, though, Lessard uses the
upright. Stefan considers revolutionary bass player Jaco
Pastorius to be his greatest musical influence. While recording the demo one of the tunes seemed to
need a supporting violin, the group then sought out Boyd Tinsely who was a classical violinist
until 1985, when he switched over to rock and roll. Before joining Dave, Carter, Leroi, and
Stefan, Boyd played with a few local outfits. He had his Boyd Tinsley Band, which he continued to
play with until 93, and he played with Down Boy Down, an acoustic duo that played fraternity
parties and college bars around Charlottesville. After playing with the new band on the demo tape,
Tinsley approached Dave and Carter and asked to join. Now for
Sexual Addiction Among Christians And Sexual Abuse
The world is full of men and women addicted to sex in some way, either through pornography,
masturbation, adultery, rape, and even child molesters. A person is constantly being bombarded with
sexual content. It is nearly impossible to surf the internet without coming across some kind of
sexually explicit content. Sex is everywhere and it is no longer hard for anyone to get access to
content that no one should be looking at. Healing the wounds of Sexual Addictionis my attempt to
examine and address the issue of sexual addictionamong Christians. We will expose these secret
sins to the light of the gospel and out best psychological understanding (Laaser 2004, 15). The
author, Laaser, has a deep desire to see everyone free from the disease of sexual addictions. It is
also, his strongest belief that people can be set free because he is free from the disease. This book
is all about addressing sexual sins, bringing them into the light, and then finding hope in honesty
and truth. The world is full of sexual problems and Laaser believes that the people with sexual
addictions can be free if a person follows the steps in his book Healing the Wounds of Sexual
Addictions.
Does the Author Approach the Subject with a Biases?
The author does have a very interesting biases. In his past, he was addicted to sex. He was in a
church as a pastor, a counselor, and a devoted member to the church. To the world, he and his
family seemed normal and as if everything was good but in reality he was
Borders By Thomas King Analysis
In the short story Borders by Thomas King there is a predicament with First Nations identity while
attempting to cross Canadian and US borders. These problems can relate with an article by Brian
Kolva titled Lacrosse Players, Not Terrorists: The Effects of the Western Hemisphere Travel
Initiative on Native American International Travel and Sovereignty . In this article there is the same
identity predicaments occurring as found in Borders. These two readings are similar when
displaying the issues First Nationspeople face when addressing who they are because of policies put
in place by governmentthat do not include everyone s personal identity. The governments of the
world need to be aware of these many different identities and policies must change for the
inclusion of all people. Firstly the most clear piece of evidence supporting the topic is the overall
denial of entry into the countries. In Borders the Canadian and US borders will not let a mother
and her son through because she identifies as Blackfoot (King, pg 284 line 8). This denial factor
can be seen in LacrossePlayers, Not Terrorists also; the Iroquois Nationals team was denied access
into Britain due to their Haudenosaunee passports(Kolva, para 1). The options given to these two
different groups were extremely similar, in Borders the mother and her son were asked to identify
as Canadian or American to cross and the lacrosse players were asked to use Canadian or American
passports to gain access into
