Science And Technology Of Designing
Nanotechnology, which is one of the new technologies, is the science and technology of designing,
constructing and creating of novel nano scale structure, 1nm to 100 nm in size, with huger quality,
novel performance properties, along with fewer defects compared with those of the bulk material
(Siqueira et al., 2010). An increasing interest from the scientific community to work with materials
in nano metric scale has been observed since the introduction of the concept of nanotechnology by
Richard Feynman in 1959. The last decade has seen advancement in every side of nanotechnology
such as nano particles and powders, nano layers and coats, electrical, optic and mechanical nano
devices, and nano structured biological materials (Bhattacharyya et al., 2009). Nanoscale
structures permit the control of fundamental properties of materials without changing the materials
chemical status (Murphy et al., 2011). There are two general ways available to produce nano
materials, as shown in the following figure 18. The first way is to start with a bulk material and
then break it into smaller pieces using mechanical, chemical or other form of energy (top down).
An opposite approach is to synthesis the material from atomic or molecular species via chemical
reactions, allowing for the precursor particles to grow in size (bottom up). Both approaches can be
done in either gas, liquid, supercritical fluids, solid states, or in vacuum (Dastjerdi and Montazer,
2010). Figure 18: Illustration of
Heroism In Beowulf
Imagine if all objects, concepts, or words consistently obtained a certain meaning; it would never
falter, all of the great things that society has invented often are improved with change or transitions.
Take a Tootsie Pop for instance, at first, it s cherry, grape, or orange flavor bursts on the tongue; it s
tangy, sweet, and crunchy. Then, after a few more licks, the sugary warm taste of the tootsie lingers
in the mouth. Seldom do people analyze the before and the after of an idea, object, or word, but that
transformation is what makes the concept meaningful.Herois a concept that continues to be
manipulated by society in conformation to the current views and beliefs. The great tales of Beowulf,
a mighty warrior and hero are illustrated in Beowulf: a new verse translation by Seamus Heaney. To
conjunctively compare and contrast society s significance with heroism, Beowulf will be analyzed
along with modern day heroes regarding common heroic traits such as; sacrifice, success, and
audacity. More specifically, Beowulf will be compared to female modern day heros. In Beowulf
times, women didn t receive the opportunity to become heroes as they were in constant oppression.
Although Beowulf lacked a feministic view, women have currently succeeded greatly and are
regarded amongst the highest of heroes. Although the concept of a hero transitions, nevertheless,
three traits; sacrifice, success, and audacity are still currently performed by current day heroes, but in

How Was Society Organised In The Aztecs
Intro How was society organised? / Government
Aztecs were the native American people who controlled northern Mexico from 1325 to 1521.
According to Aztec legend, they came from a place named Aztlan , a city from northern Mexico.

Aztec Families didn t really own land; land was owned by the calpulli. The calpulli was the lowest
form of Aztec government, which was comprised of a group of families. The local government
system was around long before the Aztec empire.A group of several calpulli was called a altepetl,
and the leader of these altepetl held a lot of power within the Aztec government.

What phenomena did the civilisation know about and predict?

The Aztecs predicted many phenomena which changed their way of life. Some of these include ...

As the great city of Tenochtitlan was built on rich, swampy, soil, the main method of Aztec farming
was using chinampas. Chinampas were roughly 30 by 2.5 meter long plots constructed in a lake
bed. These plots were then filled in with mud and vegetation, leaving a small canal for canoes to
pass, as well as offering irrigation.

Using the Xiuhpohualli calendar, the Aztecs had certain farming seasons to know what was the
best times of year to farm certain crops. These seasons were named xopan ( green time of year ),
tonallan ( time of heat ), tonalco ( during the heat ) cecuizpan ( time of cold ). The main crops
planted were maize, squash and beans, and were planted in the wet seasons.

What were the civilisation s religious beliefs?

Religion was very important in Aztec life, and the aztecs worshipped their many gods daily. Each
god ruled a human activity, or an object. As the Aztec culture was based on farming, lots of their
god were god of agriculture, or certain crops.

The Aztecs believed that the god s powers needed to be recognised in the form of gifts, and it was
believed that gifting the gods would prevent catastrophes from happening. This is why many
monuments were constructed where sacrificial ceremonies took place.

What were some of the customs that the civilisation

Analysis Of Las Cuatro Gibbis Sabias
Liz Volpi created her lithography printmaking painting Las Cuatro Gibbis Sabias made with
Senefelder black ink on archival paper. The Spanish title means together at last in English. The
painting s subject is an animated character named Gibbi repeated four times in four images
illustrating three popular actions of the Three Wise Monkeyssymbol: see no evil , hear no evil ,
speak no evil , and the fourth one is the creativity of the artist do no evil . Each action is a
rectangle with different gestures of the subject. The artwork was presented in an exhibition at
Brookhaven College Gallery (F Building) in November, 2017 and belongs to Liz Volpi under David
Newman s instruction.
The work is a representation of the gestures of Three Wise Monkeys symbol from Japan as God s
advice to see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil and usually come with do no evil . Four parts of
the painting are centered on the subject with two thirds in space, so there is a small amount of
unused space on the top of each part for the background. Liz Volpi uses only black and white in her
work with contrast between the subject and background. The color value changes from rectangle
to rectangle. If the Gibbi is painted black, the background is lighter with grey or white and vice
versa, which creates contrast and highlights the actions of the subject. The subject in top left and
bottom right images is painted in darker value than the background and the subject in bottom left
and top right is painted in lighter value than the background. Volpi uses broken thin lines to direct
viewers eyes into the character. The broken lines are the skin s type of Gibbi as description of a
different kind of species.
The repetition of the painting s subject Gibbi provides a sense of unity while the different actions
of the subject between the four images offer variety. This variety moves the viewers eye around
the painting. In each image, the viewers attention is centered on the various actions of the subject s
hands and the gestures of the subject s face to express the meaning of each phrase written on the
top of each rectangle. The first image on top left represents speak no evil with Gibbi s hands
covering her mouth. See no evil
Empirical Evidence Bearing On Capital Asset Pricing Theories
This study explores the (troubling) empirical evidence bearing on capital asset pricing theories.
General formulas for the coefficient on beta and it standard error are derived, which show that the
outcomes of cross sectional tests have no causal relation to the pricing models. If a test refutes a
model, this could be because the model is misspecified or because poor proxies for true expected
returns and betas are used. Simulation and calibration results suggest that realized returns are a
much poorer proxy than estimated betas are. The noise in realized returns typically inflates the
estimated standard error, with drastic effects on the statistical power. Inferences based on ex ante
returns are more powerful but suffer from a serious size problem. JEL: G12, C31, C52. I.
Introduction One should hardly have to tell to financial economists that the noise in the data they
use is critically important: garbage in, garbage out. And yet the information surprises in returns are
the neglected child in the house of empirical finance, a neglect described by Elton (1999, p.1218) in
the following terms: When I first entered the profession, anyone using realized returns as expected
returns made the argument that in the long run we should get what we expect. Even this weak
defense is no longer used and researchers generally treat realized returns as expected returns in their
tests without any qualifications. In this paper, I shall argue that the information surprises in returns,

Negative Effects Of Genending Machine Foods
FAST FOOD HAS MARGINALIZED OUR SCHOOLS Many times we forget about their nutrition
which leads them to take bad nutritional choices can lead to diseases. Vending machines are bad for
our children health in vending machine foods: evaluation of nutritional composition by Raposo it
mentions that The findings suggest that vending machine foods contain more fat/saturated fat,
calories and sodium than recommended (448). As you can see many of our students buy fast food
in the vending machines. I remember that when I was in junior high there was a little store in which
you could buy chips and candies, but when I went to high school there was a lot of vending
machines and also in the cafeteria when you grab lunch they will also have chips, sodas, and other
things. Even though there were times that I bought chip or sodas but I was concern that it was bad
for my health. In the article by Raposo it mentions that We must take into account that vending
machines increasingly grow in number, become more prevalent and available, thus they supply daily
energy intake to more and more individuals. So, it is important to accurately assess and monitor the
nutritive value of vending machine products (450). As we all know, vending machines expand real
quickly, even in our schools. Every single student is marginalized as Young s states that
marginalization raises basic structural issues of justice, in particular concerning the appropriateness
of a connection between participation in

According to studies from both developed and limited resource countries, the most important clinical
consequences due to VAP have increased death rates, significant disease, increased the length of stay,
and additional health care costs. Although hospitals in limited resource countries do implement
infection control programs, agreement with infection control practices is inconsistent. A multicenter,

Penny Synthesis
United states produces 13 billion pennies each year. The Penny coin in America played a role to
our economy/without people noticing too much. People most likely don t recognize it due to
inflation of prices. To public eyes the penny has always been heated debate topic. Which leads into
my paper here. Should the pennybe eliminated or kept? The penny should not be eliminated from our
coins system because the prices would be rounded(making prices mostly going up), the penny has
need to stay for economy. And the public (average american citizen) view matters and need to be
heard. Even the penny kept costing United States to make then it is worth, but the benefits of the
penny beats out the cost.

The First reason why the penny should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The remaining 300 million or so that s 10 million new useless items punched out every day by
government workers who could be more usefully employed tracking counterfeiters, (source C).
Producing the penny is job for many americans in the US hired by the government. If you use
their time better by tracking counterfeiters, all it does is need for more jobs. Which is good for the
US, if we have more people working and collecting weekly paycheck, then US won t have to worry
about Welfare growing(saving money for the US). Plus with people earning more money from jobs,
they will spend more and the government makes more money. This is best case scenario for
everyone because people get jobs and money while government spends less on welfare and more
tax money! Our economy could get out of this debt America is facing because if we can t deal
with it now, then its major problem in the future happening. This helps our present and future get
better! Now another reason is citizen want to keep the penny. Favor Abolishing The Penny?,
(Source E). Yes, but if you dig deeper into the data, it states that the lower earning class wanted to
save the money more because they knew what the penny impact on price. Don t let that confuse
you because every earning class asked, stated penny should be kept. 23% of the people wanted to get
rid of it while 59% wanted to keep and 18% not decided.
Spatial Data Warehouse Case Study
Spatial Data Warehouse
Geographic Information System information makes up spatial data. Sharing spatial information is
necessary. The biggest drawback of spatial data warehouse surrounds the data retrieval. Diverse
ideas have been put forward on the correlation between spatial objects and their directions. When
modeling the directions of spatial data in datasets, several steps are involved. The method of
approximation of the spatial objects is made. This is helpful in the determination of the best method
to be used in the analysis of the two spatial objects being correlated. The directions relations of the
spatial data are then determined (Chmiel et al, 2009). For proper analysis, the directions should be
complete and mutually exclusive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Directional relations are then drawn in relation to their intervals. MBR approximation is preferred to
point approximation because it uses the result from both objects.
Minimum Bounding Circle Approximation
In this technique, a circle surrounds the spatial data objects under study. Directions relations among
the objects are determined. The minimum bounding circletechnique is rarely used (Chan, 1999).
Tilling Based Model
Lines are used to divide the planes into many tiles. Two methods are applied; projection based model
and cone shaped model. The projection based model involves partitioning lines that run parallel to
the axes of the coordinate system. The direction relations are then determined. The cone shaped
model on the other hand describes direction using the angles (Malinow Zimányi 2007). Object
Interaction matrix is a strategy that uses Cardinal directions between objects. OIM solves a diverse
of problems created as a result of determining Cardinal directions in spatial data objects like
incorrect results. OIM can only be applied for spatial data objects (Malinowski Zimany, 2004).
Moving Objects Data Warehouses
Due to the advancement that has been realized, the amount of data being generated may be
overwhelming. Many proposals on data warehouses can solve this problem and handle the complex
data. However, one challenge often occurs as a result of the analysis. The terminology used by
different companies in OLAP is
Compare And Contrast Morrie And Erikson
Psychosocial Relation According to Erikson, personality develops in stages. These stages
develop your ego identity. Your identity refers to all the beliefs, ideals, and values that help mold
and guide your behavior. He also believed that a sense of competence motivates behaviors and
your actions. Each of Erikson s stages is concerned with becoming competent in each stage of life.
Ego strength and ego quality are what you get when you either pass or fail with these psychosocial
stages. They give you a sense of completion or a sense of feeling inadequate. Conflict will come
with each of these stages. You can either conquer these different qualities or fail to develop these
qualities. The potential for growth is high but so is the chance... Show more content on

Despair. This is where people in late adulthood either achieve a sense of integrity of the self by
accepting the lives they have lived, and thus accept death, or yield to despair that their lives
cannot be relived. It means accepting imperfection in the self, in parents, in children and life.
Although integrity must outweigh despair if this stage is to be resolved successfully, Erikson
maintained that some despair is inevitable. People need to mourn not only their misfortunes and
lost chances but for the vulnerability and transience of the human condition (Papalia, 2009, 587).
Morrie was very comfortable with death and accepted it. He still had his mornings of mourning,
but he always came out positive about everything at the end of the day. This whole book was a
reflection of his life, his thoughts, and the way he saw everything. Morrie concentrated on living
instead of dying. He had a funeral when he was still alive to celebrate his life. Morrie wanted to
hear his loved ones say how they felt when he was alive not dead. That s what we are all looking
for. A certain peace with the idea of dying. If we know, in the end, that we can ultimately have that
peace with dying, then we can finally do the really hard
